Volume
What is volume?
  • Volume is a measure of the space occupied by a substance.
  • It's SI UNIT is cubic metre.

Here are some formulas for finding the volume of regular-shaped solid objects:

(i)Cube:V=lxlxl

(ii)Cuboid:V=lxbxh

Here are some instruments for measuring volume of liquids:

  • Measuring Cylinders
  • Burette
  • Pipette
  • Measuring Flask

  • Measuring Cylinder has an accuracy of 1 cubic centimetre.(various volumes)

  • Burette has an accuracy of 0.1 cubic centimetre.(to a maximum of 25 cubic centimetre to 50 cubic centimetre)

  • Pipette has a fixed volume of 25 cubic centimetre or 50 cubic centimetre.

  • Measuring Flask has a fixed volume of 250 cubic centimetre or 500 cubic centimetre.

Here are some other tools used for measuring the volume of liquids:

Meniscus Reading:
(i) The meniscus of most liquids curve downwards.
  • The correct way to read the meniscus is to position the eye at the same level as the meniscus or in other words, to read the measurement at eye level.
  • The mark corresponding to the bottom of the meniscus is taken as the reading.

(ii)The meniscus of mercury curve upwards.

  • The correct way to read the meniscus is to position the eye at the same level as the meniscus or in other words, to read it at eye level.
  • The mark corresponding to the top of the meniscus is taken as the reading.

Thank You sooo much for reading this...Hope you all do well for tomorrow's exam!! Jia You!!~All the best!! It's our last test so...study hard and we will definitely do well!!~~Go 105!! Lets all make Ms Sherry Tan proud!!
